Thanks for the debugging advice Scott. The only issue for me is that when I install Karmic and it goes _very_ bad I end up with a bricked machine (IO errors on SSD causing me to drop to initramfs promt). The only way to test other kernels is to dd zeros over the SSD and reinstall the OS again, then add in whatever kernel to test. It's a maddeningly time consuming task.
