What verion of Feisty are you using?
Using Herd 4 I was unable to duplicate this, could you give some more
information? Using the nm-applet, hitting the option for a static
connection calls gksu network-admin for me. Modifying that modifies the
/etc/network/interfaces correctly to have the word static. There does
present the common issue people are having with nm-applet then saying no
devices are found still though, could you please add some more details
to your report.
