I had the same problem.  It looks as if ppd file section "JobPatchFile 1" is 
not handled by the initial ps to pdf filtering.  When I removed the lines in 
the Xerox ppd file between the lines
*JobPatchFile 1: " 
and
*End
then everything worked.
I also had to use the lpd:// interface rather than socket:// in cups otherwise 
I was getting "broken pipe" messages.  I haven't checked the other interfaces 
(ipp, http, etc.) but  this one works well.

Everything now appears to be OK, but I have no way of checking if
removing the section of the ppd file affects CIE.  I also noticed a
comment in the logs "GPL Ghostscript 8.70: Set UseCIEColor for
UseDeviceIndependentColor to work properly." but I need to dig deeper to
check the relevance of this.
