fwiw, i just did a fresh reformat and install of karmic on my 64-bit system (system76 darter ultra). i had previously been running karmic after upgrading from intrepid (upgraded from jaunty, i think), and i had the pulseaudio memory leak. after a fresh install, seems to be gone (thus far). hope this helps.
