Thanks for reporting this bug. Do you still experience the problem with
the latest official version of Inkscape for Ubuntu (0.47~pre4-0ubuntu1)?
I wasn't able to reproduce this bug myself, so hopefully it has been
fixed. Also, it sounds quite similar to bug #193228 which has now been
fixed.
