Actually, the issue you are experiencing is fairly common.  Many users
(rightfully) presume that when the window disappears, that the program
is finished.  However, the program has several cleanup tasks to do when
the last window closes, and therefore is not completely finished when
the window closes.

So, if you try opening firefox very soon after closing a window, then
you will get that error message.  You can confirm this by waiting about
10-15 seconds after closing the last window and then try opening firefox
again.  That should be more than sufficient amount of time for firefox
to clean up.
