I have uploaded to kubuntu-ppa/beta backported 1.0 package of digikam
and kipi-plugins. I think that when it builds, it should fix the
crashers you are seeing (we suspect they are caused by kdegraphics libs
ABI changes). Please report back if you still have problems after you
get new package.
