I have this same problem also, it started to occur after upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10. It happens very often after attaching my mp3 player (Trextor Cebrax), after a few minutes usb's filesystem becomes read-only and file transfers with Nautilus naturally stops.
if I manually mount mp3 player as root, there hasn't been any problems.
