#244304 re: USB floppies is long-since resolved. Let me retarget this
one at the SB600 + legacy floppy combo, which I just had a chance to
test again and discovered it remains broken as of 9.10, Linux hostname

...unless all the floppies in the house are corrupted from first
attempts - not impossible, as it took quite a bit of ddrescue to recover
at least one precious floppy my pet user insisted on trying repeatedly
in that machine back when the situation was even more dire. Remember to
always mount a test monkey. [And I should really remember to flip the
write-protect tab, for what little protection that offers.]

These days, it spins the disk briefly and the GUI coughs up a 'No media
detected' error. I can't say it's not destroying media for sure, but
that's better behavior than having it get stuck spinning forever (and
potentially writing who-knows-what).

Let me see if apport can scrape up anything useful here.

"P.S.": If anyone is aware of a service in the US that still has a
floppy autoloader and can dump two shoeboxes of plain old FAT floppies
to CD or flash for a reasonable price, let me know.
