Hi Josh,
I would like to use NetworkManager, but after upgrading to Karmic it
caused major problems with my wireless connection. (iwlagn) My apartment
building has a shared wifi router that is out of my control. It uses WPA,
but I don't know which version or encryption type off hand. Anyway, somehow
NetworkManager causes the router to reset not only my internet connection,
but also my girlfriend's connection on her Macbook, just about every 30
seconds to a minute. Totally unusable. After finally figuring out that it
was NetworkManager causing the problem, I tried wicd, which is a POS from
what I can tell. It just hangs for minutes any time I click on the applet.
So, I had to resort to learning wpa_supplicant and friends. Super
annoying. Others have reported the same problem I experienced.

My laptop was stolen over the weekend so unfortunately I can't give you any
more information related to this bug or the NetworkManager bug. It seems
odd that UbuntuOne would require NetworkManager. I would have assumed there
were some underlying dbus mechanisms to get network status update events.
Anyway, thanks for Ubuntu. Karmic has unfortunately been one of the worst
upgrades I've had in my 10 years of Linux distros, but I'm sticking with you
for another release in hopes of improvements. (Suspend became much less
reliable, and restart/shutdown often block before completion with a black
screen...) I think much of it might be due to either NVidia's crappy
drivers or the iwlagn module which I often have to re-load...

peace,
Jeff
