After contacting the maillist I can conclude that this indeed something that could be considered a bug. I'm setting the status to 'Triaged' and reporting this upstream.
However, in the maillist discussion it was said that this small issue doesn't have top priority, and that although they welcome patches, it is not likely that they will fix it themselves anytime soon.
