I tried the latest driver from Atheros:

# modinfo ./atl1e.ko

filename: ./atl1e.ko
version: 1.0.1.4
license: GPL
author: Atheros Corporation, <[email protected]>, Jie Yang
<[email protected]>
description: Atheros Gigabit Ethernet driver
srcversion: DF7295D1E698BE07EE3D18E

That one give me an extra "Advertized link mode":

Settings for eth0:
        Supported ports: [ TP ]
        Supported link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
        Supports auto-negotiation: Yes
        Advertised link modes: 10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
                                1000baseT/Full
        Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
        Speed: 100Mb/s
        Duplex: Full
        Port: Twisted Pair
        PHYAD: 0
        Transceiver: internal
        Auto-negotiation: on
        Supports Wake-on: pg
        Wake-on: d
        Current message level: 0x00000001 (1)
        Link detected: yes

But still 100Mbit on a 1GBit wire. Tried different switches and cables.

It seems that this card is just "Fast Ethernet". The specs from HP claim
this, and the driver in XP says so too. So I guess I'm just out of luck
unless there is some magical firmware update? Is it a crippled Gbit card
in this netbook?

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid
