I just found out that I can revive the display by pressing Fn-F8 (CRT/LCD) after opening the lid. I can then enter my screensaver password and regain access to my session. I guess this is still a bug, as the screensaver password dialog should appear instantly after re- opening the display or at least after moving the mouse or typing a key again.
What I did not find out is how to re-open this bug. Peter, are you reading this?
