BUG: replacement of favicon.ico on server not noticed by FireFox.
FIXED (without fixing FireFox).

Make sure that
index.php / index.htm
and not merely
homepage.php / homepage.htm
contains:
<html><head><link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico"
type="image/x-icon" />

So, WHAT'S THE FIREFOX BUG?
if
server's root-directory contains the file favicon.ico
but
index.php
does not contain
<html><head><link rel="shortcut icon" href="favicon.ico"
type="image/x-icon" />
then
[1] Firefox notices the FAVICON on server/root and remembers the FIRST ONE it
sees
[2] and refuses to notice any replacement FAVICON
