This is massively FRUSTRATING! Every time my wife uses our PC she finds that she can't play any sound. She has to reboot the PC which is a pain and means that I loose anything I had open. I've told her to do this because quite rightly, she shouldn't have to run scripts etc just to play some music! Apple Mac, none of these problems, Windows XP/Vista/7 non of these problems. Why can't Ubuntu get these things right before it changes the login screen and various other nice changes. There's an update every 6 months and updates constantly but still this sound problems persist or re-emerge. i'm on Karmic btw.
