I should say that I'm quite happy with this quirk fix. That is, by adding "options snd-hda-intel model=will" to "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa- base.conf".
I've not compared the volume controls to previous versions but it appears that all the inputs/outpus are accounted for using this quirk patch.
