Uncommenting line (48) in /usr/bin/office did have a small effect on the timing of the crash. When line (48) is commented out, the first slide appears in the full screen of the slide show and then a crash occurs. When commented "in" read by system; only a blank (black) screen and then a crash.
Switching "nvidia" to "nv" in the xorg.conf file and rebooting allows SLIDESHOW to run - quite slowly. Entire system runs slower with xorg driver. However, when closing file (not exiting ooimpress programme), ooimpress crashes and attempts immediate recovery of blank document.
