While trying to upgrade from the most recent Karmic server installation to Lucid today, I also encountered this error.
I was able to work around this issue by first installing 'libplymouth2' from Lucid and then re-running 'do-release-upgrade'. == Error Message == SystemError: E:Couldn't configure pre-depend libplymouth2 for mountall, probably a dependency cycle. == Package Dependencies == The package dependencies and pre-deps for 'mountall' and 'libplymouth2' are included below.
