I have similar problems on 64bit desktop 9.10. When I hit CTRL + ALT + L, the screen does not lock. But if I wait until the screensaver kicks in, then the screen locks. Also from that time in the session, the CTRL + ALT + L works perfectly. It is like the shortcuts need to learn that it is really possible to lock the screen. Clicking on the lock option in the "power-button-menu" does never working.
