The gconf folder contains all your local settings for applications and
gnome.  Somehow a setting was changed that caused us to not be able to
click on things without holding down ctrl.  I did a little bit of
digging and it looks like it's a metacity setting.  From terminal, try
doing this:

cd ~/.gconf/apps/
mv metacity metacity_old

then log out and log back in.
