Hi Mark,
I request you to reconsider this decision. Most of the Ubuntu users are used to 
tooltips in the panel status indicators and this is what they would be 
expecting in lucid. Also, lucid is expected to be the best ubuntu release since 
Warty. Users of Ubuntu like me want it to be the best release in every way and 
I think that most of us would hate to see those golden tooltips go away.
Lucid will also see many users migrating from Windows. All latest versions of 
Windows do have tooltips in icons in the tray, and such users would feel that 
Ubuntu is "less matured" when they would not find any tooltips in the panel 
indicators.
And, there is the concern about LTS. Many corporate users are expected to stay 
on Lucid till 12.04 LTS comes out. Please do not remove the tooltips in this 
release!
