Mark , right. I think we both are mentioning the same thing , as is this bug. 
Which asks to name the icons as was done in Karmic Humanity[which is probably 
the reason for the reduced support calls ;-)]

I agree that the current icon is a poor metaphor for "network" , pls see Bug 
#532522 .
"internet"/"network" is an abstract concept to be denoted in a monochrome. 
Hence I had done the icon as two connectors for Humanity, which seems to be 
used elsewhere [ex: in evolution , and most other application to denote 
connected states.] The two connectors are not the best metaphor but , they were 
the safest. 
We could use the similar icon from humanity[until I can think of something more 
Mark-appropriate] ;-)
