I dont know if this helps but the output to the screen is not totally frozen as i can see usb messages by plugging/unplugging usb devices. Actually I can always see an error message from a previous usb keyboard initialization which was timed out, so it appears 11 s later. after the init-bottom done message. So apparently we are still on the console screen.
