After hitting bug #566762, I removed the plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo and the Broken pipe/other output on boot is much less noticeable (after several reboots). I can't say or sure if this is due to the catching of the output being racy (and me winning lately), the newer plymouth 0.8.2-2 helps with it or because I removed the theme (due to that bug, I can't test this one with plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo installed).
