This might be related, or not. On Ubuntu 7.10 (Edgy), I upgraded to
xorg 7.2.2. X seems to ignore the DPMS settings for in my xorg.conf
file. I've tried both "DPMS" "false" and "NODPMS" but no good. This
used to work in xorg 7.1.

Workaround was to insert an xset command in my session preferences.

I've been having frequent kernel lockups since upgrading. Turning off
DPMS seemed to help for a while, but now it's back.
