Just to be sure, though : gthumb --version is showing "GNOME gthumb 2.10.11", right? (You seem to have a non-standard setup, just want to make sure you are using the version from the repository). Another question: Does it also hang if you call gthumb --import-photos *without* having any camera, memory stick, etc. connected?
