For what it's worth, here's the only workaround that works for me. I
boot into recovery mode and simply hit the hardware power switch after I
log in. I haven't tried "poweroff" or "halt" commands since I haven't
needed to, but I guess they would too.

The camera works fine until I suspend or hibernate. Apparently some of
my modules are not shut down properly, and I cant even remove/restart
them with sudo.
