I have also a Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM and I've just installed Ubuntu
10.4.

During the installation, the image was strange, with some parts like blinking.
At the end, when restarted, Ubuntu recognized the monitor as Samsung Electric
Company 24" with resolution of 1920x1200, but the image overlaps the screen
like if a zoom was made.

The only way I could make it work was to configure with a resolution of
1600x1200.

I've ran the command "sudo ddccontrol -pcd" and the result is attached.
While I was running that command, the following error message appeared:

I/O warning : failed to load external entity
"/usr/share/ddccontrol-db/monitor/SAM0368.xml"
Document not parsed successfully.

Any help would be appreciated
