I have the same issue on a notebook with an i915 intel graphic card. I tried to make a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 from the liveCD but after booting it shows the purple splash with the "keyboard equals human"-icon and then hangs. Previously the ubuntu 9.10 install from the liveCD went smoothly.
