I believe I'm suffering from this as well. I'm Kubuntu. I walk away
during the upgrade. Upon return the monitor is in standy by and neither
mouse nor keyboard can awake it.
SSH from another system revels the following ps snippet. This happened
to my home desktop as well. Killing the "hung" process resulted in
others having problems as well. Eventually I made it out the other
side. Had to install kubuntu-desktop after reboot.
