Public bug reported:

I cannot enter cyrillic characters in NetBeans 6.8 editor under Lucid
Lynx. I can switch the keyboard to the Russian layout (which is
indicated with Gnome keyboard applet and the Scroll-lock LED), but the
characters entered appear as latin ones, not cyrillic, as if they were
transliterated of the keyboard layout wasn't switched. Cyrillic
characters that where in the text previously (the text was imported from
another system) are displayed well. Cyrillic characters that was copy-
pasted from another program also look well.

I did not see this problem under Karmic Koala. Also cyrillic input
behaves well in the same NetBeans 6.8 under CentOS 5.x and under Windows
7.

This does not seem to be a problem in Java runtime as such. First, it
appears independently of what JRE I use: OpenJDK or SunJava. And second,
it does not appear in other Java programs, at least JEdit accepts
cyrillic input well.
