HI Jeremy Just a quick recap, I wrote you back a few weeks ago to tell you that I was starting to have problems with my comp and that I could no longuer trust my motherboard to test for this bug. I've since purchased a new computer. The upshot is that I can now tell you for certain that this is definately not a hardware issue since the bug also occurs on the new comps ( mind you it's still the same PCI parallele printer port card).
I've tested with a clean install of ubuntu 10.04 amd64, and I still cannot print to a printer connected to the pci parralele printer port card. lspci reports the card as present and properly identified I've tested with a live cd session of ubuntu 9.04 amd64 and I can print without issue. So we are definately talking about a regression bug on the software side of things. This is becomming an even more urgent issue to me since this new computer does not have any parralelle printer ports on it at all and I'm going to have to rely exclusively on pci card to connect to my printers. You may ask why I just don't give up and buy a usb printer : 1- I defy you to find a currently made printer that can print 11x17 (a3) for a decent price , or a usb dot matrix printer ,and yes I have use for both. 2- one of the appeals of linux is to be able to use older hardware , new dot matrix printers are ridiculously expensive and olderones last for ever so why stop using them. 3- I bought them , they still work so I want to keep using them, so there :-) in anycase, I've run the apport command you recommended and it uploaded to launchpad. I'm looking into doing the upstream kernel checking but this is a bit over my head, it does however old some interest since the new computer run one of those new intel core i5 with the integrated gpu and the support on the current ubuntu stable kernel is far from 100%. I'll let you know if I decide to get into it thanks for the interest in my little problem Jean Péloquin aka Pélo -- printer won't print when connected to netmos pci parrallel port card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/499915 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
