I had this problem as well as others who have posted on this topic. I tried to run "sudo dpkg --configure -a". The first time the terminal asked for my password and would not let me keyboard it in. After a reboot I tried again. This time it said it required superuser privileges. I found weathergods post suggesting the use of the 'sudo apt-get clean' command. I entered this and once again it asked for my password. I entered it and this time it worked. I was then able to install the software. Thanks to all who work so hard at making Ubuntu linux work for the masses. I hope to see Linux become the OS of the future.
