Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It looks from the bug description like a critical
directory was deleted or replaced with a file. This may have been caused
by file system corruption. I would help us greatly if you could tell how
or since what change did the problem first occurred. You can possibly
fix the problem by removing the file and creating the directory by
running the following commands in the Terminal:
sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/updates
sudo mkdir /var/lib/dpkg/updates
