I have tried out the file and it runs through the filter chain on the
computer without problems. The problem is printing the resulting
PostScript file on PostScript printers which do not have much memory.
Perhaps the memory of your printer is not enough for this file.

Try the following:

1. Run the commands

pdftops chem.pdf
lpr -oraw chem.ps

in a terminal window. Does your printer print the file? Does it show any
errors on its front panel display? Please supply the error_log if the
printer does not print the file.

2. Does your printer print e-mails, web pages, or OpenOffice.org
documents? If not, supply appropriate error_log files.

3. Your chem.pdf looks like that you have scanned pages and saved the
scan in a PDF file. Which program did you use (xsane, simplescan, ...)?
Can you try another program (scan program of KDE, scan facility in
OpenOffice.org, ...)? Can you also change scan parameters (lower
resolution, ...)? Compare the sizes of resulting PDF files. Do you get
smaller PDFs without lowering the resolution if you use another program?
Do you get PDF files which get printed on your printer?
