According to your dmesg log file the error is 
[ 1447.318692] JBD2: Detected IO errors while flushing file data on sda5-8

This is caused by a corrupted filesystem of the faulty drive. You should
run a filesystem check on your WD drive because that may lead to massive
data loss.

I'm closing this report because it's not a bug with Ubuntu.
