Although this can be considered an openoffice bug - I think there is a
problem also in the gnome-session manager as it's not informing the user
about the program causing the problem - in my case the program silently
fail, proper behavior must be to warn user about the program causing the
problem.

Also I wonder if the shutdown in gnome-session is too weak (compared with 
shutdown for example).
Which signal is trying to send to the programs to shutdown?  How much timeout 
is allowed before killing it?
I think shutdown from gnome-session must behave similar to shutdown from 
system.  Am I wrong?  [Sorry if I've missed some previous discussion about this]

I have the feeling that ubuntu is the linux distro more focused on
usability and best user experience - so these kind of things must be
sensitive, IMHO an underdeveloped program (any) must not stop a shutdown
raised by user.
