I just want to be absolutely sure I go about this carefully, as it seems to me changing kernels is dangerous, especially considering I am an end user with a limited understanding of the issues. The link you pointed to only makes reference to "Mainline" kernels, whereas you suggested I install an "upstream" kernel.
