Hi, I believe that I am suffering from the same problem this bug reports - very frustrating. Symptoms are IDENTICAL to those described - greyed- out shutdown and restart, 'random occurence', sound loss, - I would like to enquire about another trait which i also have when this situation occurs - namely when I try to mount an external drive, I receive a 'not authorised' message.
Can shut down via terminal with 'su' priviledges - still, miss my sound and need to mount my external drive!
