I have tried the kernels that came with the install and found that 2.6.31.14 seemed more stable for longer compared to the default 2.6.31.22 that is shipped with the Ubuntu 9.10 I am using.
Maybe that will help with something. The only other thing I can do is install the kernel base of 2.6.31.1 and see if THAT makes a difference.
