Have tested OO Writer with drawing toolbar visible and different documents loaded, but haven't got any problem so far. The same is true if OO is being opened in another workspace. So, your issue might be related to some specific version of OO and(or) desktop. As for Zotero: by its nature it almost for sure accesses system clipboard in a background mode. Thus, could you check please if the crash you have experienced is related specifically to Zotero (not to any other application running at the same moment)?
