Thanks for the reply, will try out your suggestion. I solved the issue by running grub-install. Boot menu now seems to have a selection for Vista and Ubuntu, and both seem to work fine.
Also was able to make a bootup disk for Linux. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Mohamed Amine IL Idrissi Sent: Sunday, July 11, 2010 11:50 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [Bug 604352] Re: grub crashes on bootup This issue is affecting the grub2 package, not the grub package. Please run the following command in a terminal (without the quotes): "apport-collect 604352", so we can gather more informations. ** Package changed: grub (Ubuntu) => grub2 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: grub2 (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- grub crashes on bootup https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/604352 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Status in “grub2” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Binary package hint: grub On bootup, grub fails with the message "grub_puts_ not found". This is on a modern dual-boot Dell Inspiron. Primary drive (sda0,0) has Vista installed. Secondary drive (sda0,1) has Ubuntu. This problem started after upgrading to 10.04 LDS. Both OS's were accessible before that. I have to start with function key F12, which fails to launch Vista, but does launch Ubuntu. I noticed that the upgrade also replaced /boot/grub/menu.lst, removing the Vista item. Fixing that didn't change anything. Should I reinstall grub? I'm nervous about doing that, since I'm also having some trouble making a bootup disk on a CD.
