I would also like to add, that locks up only happen during heavy network activity. For instance - Multiple download in Firefox - File Transfer with other computers of my LAN In my case everyday web browsing and download will *not* make my Intersil ISL3886 based wifi card freeze my computer. Only high data rates will. As above, I just have to turn my Intersil ISL3886 based wifi card off and use Ethernet instead and my computer will never freeze again. Again, I would happily provide more info about my system and configuration.
