Normally, after the command
# lpoptions -p Epson -o raw
the CUPS web interface (http://localhost:631) should show
Local raw printer
and not
Generic PostScript printer
but it does not.
So indeed there seems to be something broken on the Mac side. Perhaps
it's wisest to stop doing those tests, and wait for the system upgrade
to OS X snow leopard in a few days.
