Currently fixed! See attached screenshot. To reproduce (currently working situation): start VirtualBox, add a new VM and a new HD. Attach the Lucid-desktop iso image, boot, install. Reboot (no need to remove the ISO apparently). Next go in and edit /boot/grub/grub.cfg and change the root=UUID=..... into root=/dev/sda6, and the next reboot should fail to mount the root.....
