My graphics card:
01:04.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon
7000/VE]

I can ssh into my machine, but the screen is black. It is receiving a
signal (light on the monitor is green), and I see grub and some messages
fine.

With Karmic, I got an unsupported display mode error from my monitor
when there should have been a splash screen, but since I eventually got
to log in, I didn't worry about it.

I looked in dmesg, and I see efifb, so I tried disabling it with
video=efifb:off, which didn't improve it.

I tried another video card ( A Gigabyte brand GeForce card), but Linux
rebooted.

I try unloading and loading radeonfb, but it doesn't seem to help. Restarting
gdm doesn't work because it isn't running.
~$ sudo service gdm restart
restart: Unknown instance:

If I start it, it runs for 5-10 seconds, but there is no output on the screen.
Then I get the same thing I got before I started it:
~$ sudo service gdm start
gdm start/running, process 1953

The motherboard is a Tyan s2892. I updated to Lucid and applied all the
updates with apt-get update.

Thanks,
Myles
