It took me a while to figure out why my system froze for no apparent reason, until I found this bug. In my case, the system doesn't always freeze when I insert a DVD, but it happens most of the time. I tried turning on the SATA compatibility mode in my BIOS, but it didn't help. What did help was not using my ASUS DVD-E616A3 (which is an IDE drive), but only using my other drive, the Sony DVD RW DRU-V200S (which is SATA). That one reads disks without a hiccup.
It would be nice to have this bug fixed, but the biggest thing for me was identifying the issue so that I can work around it instead of stumbling into it randomly and suffering much frustration.
