I installed the package from ubuntu-audio-dev, stil same problem...
Im using the mb Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Socket 1366 (on ubuntu amd64).

I have also checked that the recording is set to the appropiate mic (in
alsamixer)... please do let me know if further info would be necessary
