I have the same problem here Wifi disconnect randomly, not too often but enough to allianate the self. Thinkap T60, 2.6.32-24-generic, fully patched, 10.04 new install. The wireless HD is "PRO/Wireless 3945ABG [Golan] Network Connection (rev 02)".
I already changed in /etc/default/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf the value of "[ifupdown] managed=false" to "true". Did somehow lessen the frequency of disconnects. Stil happens from time to time. To reconnect I do have to turn off the Wifi switch. Turn on and an connect again but does not reconnect automatically. I ran Debian (with KDE) for years on that machine. Never experience this issue. All other laptops are running Debian no issue. Not downloading anything big, just a constant radio streaming. Please Ubuntu people, any sign of hope that it will get fixed.
