Oops - misunderstanding ... The problem appeared - possibly as a result of a recent update. It affected the output from xrandr, and that, or some other effect of the problem meant I had an effectively unusable system.
I have seen the same effect before on earlier versions - and had to reinstall to get round it. It is too rare for me to correlate it with version or particular hardware. The problem went away while I was investigating it - there was no update to make it go away; I think something I did cleared something. But since I cannot identify either something it doesn't help anybody much. But nor does a misunderstanding. My var/log/apt record shows the Xorg update that triggered the problem (dated 18 Aug) and the absence of any update since. I suspect something in the update caused my problem. ** Attachment added: "var-log-apt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/620581/+attachment/1511737/+files/var-log-apt.tar.gz ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => Incomplete -- Reduced screen resolution choices after update https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/620581 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
